“The Something About April Tour is the show I've always dreamed of bringing to life. Fifteen years in the making, the Something About April trilogy is my magnum opus; a body of work designed for the most cinematic and live experience.” - Adrian Younge
Composer Adrian Younge returns to Brazil for two exclusive shows, marking the release of the highly anticipated Something About April III, the album that concludes his iconic trilogy. This time, Younge presents a unique musical experience alongside Brazilian icons, exploring the intersection between symphonic grandeur, breakbeats, and Brazilian psychedelia in performances that promise to captivate the audience.
The shows will take place in São Paulo on May 7, at Cultura Artística. In São Paulo, the performance will be even grander, with an orchestra of 40 musicians and appearances by Samantha Schmütz, Céu, Luiza Lian, Hyldon, and Carlos Dafé—artists who have collaborated with Younge on his most recent productions, including the compilations São Pauloand Jazz Is Dead 021. We are especially proud to add J.Rocc onto the bill with an incredible opening DJ set. This makes the São Paulo show go beyond Something About April, bringing these albums to life in a spectacular way.
Something About April III is the pinnacle of a 15-year quest for a sound that Younge describes as “buried deep within his soul.” The album combines luxurious arrangements by the Linear Labs orchestra with analog beats and vintage synthesizers, and features a Brazilian choir selected by Grammy winner Céu. Songs like “Nunca Estranhos,” “O Som Do Amor,” and “Nossas Sombras” reflect the perfect fusion of Brazilian psychedelia and Younge’s cinematic soul, while tracks like “A Minha Fantasia” and “Esperando Por Você” pay tribute to icons such as Tim Maia and Cassiano, reimagined through the artist’s unique perspective.
“The Something About April tour is the show I’ve always dreamed of putting together. Fifteen years in the making, the Something About April trilogy is my magnum opus; a body of work created for the most cinematic and live experience.” — Adrian Younge
Adrian Younge’s connection to Brazil goes beyond music. Inspired by his collaboration with legendary Brazilian musicians in the Jazz Is Dead series, Younge immersed himself in the country’s musical culture, learning Portuguese and delving deep into its rich sonic heritage. This influence is palpable in Something About April III, which not only honors Brazilian music but reinvents it, creating a bridge between the past and the present.
With meticulous production and analog equipment, Younge keeps the essence of vinyl culture alive, creating a soundscape that is both nostalgic and innovative. Something About April III is more than just an album; it is a statement of purpose, celebrating the power of music to transcend borders and eras.
