When discussing the giants of Brazilian soul music, three names rise to the top: Tim Maia, Cassiano, and Hyldon. This holy trinity of Brazilian soul shaped the country's musical landscape in the 1970s, infusing American R&B influences with Brazilian grooves, passion, and poetry. While Tim Maia became the most widely recognized internationally and Cassiano pioneered the genre’s lush harmonies, Hyldon carved his own space as a masterful songwriter, musician, and producer, whose influence remains strong to this day.

Hyldon de Souza Silva, known simply as Hyldon, emerged as a defining voice in the movement known as Black Rio, a fusion of Brazilian Popular Music and the soul and funk sounds imported from the U.S. His breakthrough album, Na Rua, Na Chuva, Na Fazenda(1975), became a cornerstone of Brazilian soul, featuring the hit title track, which remains one of the most beloved love songs in Brazilian music. With his smooth vocals, sophisticated songwriting, and groove-infused arrangements, Hyldon crafted a sound that was both deeply Brazilian and universally soulful.

What set Hyldon apart was his ability to blend funk, soul, and samba with introspective and poetic lyrics. While Tim Maia brought raw energy and Cassiano emphasized intricate harmonies, Hyldon provided an intimate, heartfelt perspective, often writing about love, longing, and everyday life with profound sensitivity. His work as a producer also played a crucial role in shaping the sound of Brazilian soul, working alongside some of the biggest names in the scene.
