BHM 2020: BLACK JAZZ RECORDS

There was a glowing full moon over the city, but you already know that nothing could outshine Black Jazz Records all-stars Jean Carne, Doug Carn, Calvin Keys, and Henry “Skipper” Franklin on Sunday night at The Lodge Room. They lit up the crowd with their bold groundbreaking style and in turn the love radiated out the room. The elation and admiration felt in audience was the kind that comes from sheer disbelief. The disbelief that these pioneers could all come together, under one roof, and bless the city with this historic one-night only performance.

They were the musical anarchist of their time, who set the stage for the sounds and genres of today.

Beyond grateful to be able to bask in their light.
